I am originally from Arlington, Virginia, right outside of the Washington, D.C. area. I attended college at James Madison University, located in the Shenandoah Valley, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Middle School Education. I obtained a Grade 4-8 certification and taught math and science to 6th graders for 12 years at a wonderful middle school in Harrisonburg, Va. Additionally, I was adjunct faculty at James Madison University, helping to train and supervise practicum and student teachers. I then rounded out my career teaching math to 5th and 6th graders for Eanes ISD for the past nine years.
I am an active member in the local Math Teacher's Circle at the University of Texas as well as participate in Austin's local chapter of the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). When not furthering my own learning in math, you might find me spending time with my boyfriend, Peter. Peter and I love to cook, and when together, we try to perfect a favorite dish or explore a new recipe.
He and I are both avid readers (I'm presently working my way through The Sport of Kings by C.E. Morgan) and runners. In fact, the Austin Cap 10K was the reason we met! I am constantly on the Lady Bird Lake trail, running and training for a 5, 10K or even half marathon! A few years ago I became SCUBA certified and try to find opportunities to put into practice all those diving skills. I have been extremely fortunate to experience dives in the BVI, Bonaire, and on a tiny island called Saba, which is near St. Martin.
I'm pleased to meet you and would love to know more about you and your family. Feel free to email me anytime! I am thrilled to teach math to all of the 6th graders at St. Stephen's.
